Tasting notes
The 2014 Nuits St Georges 1er Cru Aux Murgers has a very different nose to the Aux Thorey, a little more complexity here and less opulence, more black fruit here with blackberry and bilberry, a touch of dark plum. The palate is medium-bodied with a seductive, silky texture; the 60% new oak is seamlessly integrated, but this retains a killer sense of tension on the finish. Controlled power here, controlled power.

Good medium red Cool aromas of blackberry, licorice and minerals are complemented by sexy oak tones Intense, penetrating flavors of purple fruits and salty minerality are classically dry and quite backward Dense and palate-staining but, like the Aux Thorey, this will need time in bottle to reveal its personality The yield here was a full 45 hectoliters per hectare

(60% new oak; cropped at 44 hectoliters per hectare): Deep red-ruby. Blackberry and dark chocolate aromas are lifted by a floral topnote. Not quite as dense as the Aux Thorey but juicy, spicy, minerally and firm--very much a Vosne-side Nuits. Finishes with terrific energy and a light touch, with a serious tannic spine that will require extended aging.
